Blood Rugs & Layable Liquids was born from the desire to simplify one of the most challenging aspects of on-set production—creating realistic liquid effects without the hassle of cleanup.
Our journey began in 2010 with Austyn Jessie Santiago, a seasoned Makeup Artist in IATSE union 706, grew frustrated with the limitations of traditional methods for simulating spills and puddles of blood. The constant cycle of messy clean-ups, the risk of damaging locations floors, equipment, and the inevitable delays led Austyn to envision a solution that would bring both realism and efficiency to the set.
After extensive research and color swatches, Blood Rugs was developed. Our rugs are engineered with a unique, flexible rubber material that mimics the appearance and texture of real liquid spills. Unlike traditional methods, Blood Rugs allow for easy repositioning and removal of the ‘spills’—you can simply pick up the pool of blood without any mess or fuss.
